Without learning a single new chord shape!

This is truly everything you need to know about how to approach complex and intelligent chordal playing over these harmonies.

Learn From A Proven Method

This approach has been developed from over a decade of teaching and testing to distill the best possible way to actually practice and internalize these concepts as a player, and not just understand them abstractly.

Rethink Chords on the Guitar

A chord is not just a shape, it’s a collection of notes that can be played in many different places on the guitar. This method walks through in a clear and accessible way how each chord really works all over the fretboard so you never have to look up chord diagrams again.

Know What’s Being Played with Visual Aids

Each lesson includes a thorough video demonstration on how to practice and apply everything. Countless extra hours have been put into the production of this course to ensure that the material is as straightforward to follow as possible. That means you get clear visual aids on-screen as you’re watching and learning—no need to guess what’s being played in the video!

Learn About Chord Extensions

This course uses what’s called the Replacement Approach to create extended chords. Instead of creating difficult and complicated chord shapes by trying to add a ‘9’ to a Maj7 chord on the guitar, we can replace the root with the ‘9’, creating what’s called a Rootless Voicing. This not only makes our chord shapes more physically manageable, but it creates shapes that we already know from course 1! For example, every rootless Maj9 chord is the same shape as a Min7 chord (high five!).

Get an Advanced System That Works

This approach works. It’s designed to be comforting in the sense that it’s linear, systematic, thorough, complete, and methodical—simple in concept, difficult in execution. You don’t have to make any decisions or wonder how to go about working on it; it’s all laid out for you. This is a resource that you can use for years and years—you can do as much or as little as you like.

For those wanting to practice diligently through every exercise, or for those wanting an overview on how the nuts and bolts of music works when it comes to jazz chords on the guitar, this course will not disappoint.

Be Challenged

Do you want to learn chords easily without much work?
Do you want to play cool licks to impress your friends?
Do you want a shortcut to amazing musicianship?

Then this course is not for you.

But if you actually want a life-long resource and approach to tackling notoriously confusing chord types on the guitar, then you’re in the right place.

The most rewarding practicing happens when we are challenged and when we are truly facing, straight-on, the gaps in our knowledge and abilities.

Jazz Comping Mastery is is not the easy path, but it is the more rewarding path.

A Personal Message from Jared:

Dear guitarists,

Over the last decade and a half I’ve taught thousands of hours of lessons to hundreds of students while continuing to practice and learn diligently for myself. Throughout this process I discovered a deep passion for creating unique approaches to attaining a high level of musicianship on the guitar. I learned firsthand that not all exercises are created equal, and that to attain any desired musical skill we must design a specific and thorough method that takes us straight to the center of our goal, leaving no gaps in our ability or knowledge. I’ve created, tested, and refined a multitude of these methods over the years and the curriculum presented in the Jazz Comping Mastery course series is one of them.

At the heart of all great learning methods is problem solving. How do we transition from lacking a certain skill to being able to use it fluently? A properly designed exercise or curriculum should get us there without us even realizing it so long as we follow the steps laid out for us. This is exactly how Jazz Comping Mastery 1 and Jazz Comping Mastering 2 are set up. After seeing this approach work both for myself and for many of my students, you can rest assured that if you practice exactly what’s assigned in these video lessons that you will attain the information in an extremely efficient and effective way.

This is a unique method for practicing, seeing, connecting, and playing chord forms on the guitar that you won’t find anywhere else. To learn this information from me privately in one-on-one guitar lessons it would take months of weekly sessions and cost many hundreds of dollars at $80 per lesson. For only a little more than one of those private lessons you can get an entire segment of the program carefully produced as a self-paced, step-by-step video course.

My goal is to help musicians everywhere find more fulfillment in their practicing by sharing the approaches that really work. I put a great amount of thought and care into creating this course series with the sole intention that it’s truly valuable for you. I hope you find that to be the case and I look forward to creating more courses that help to deepen the level of joy we can experience through music.

Let me know if you have any questions or feedback any time, and happy practicing! :)
